Postpartum Hair Loss

After having my first son, no one really told me that hair loss was part of the gig. The gorgeous, luscious hair I had during pregnancy suddenly started falling out. It was pretty gradual. I didn’t notice large clumps, though I know some women do. For me, it was a thinning of sorts that really started to become noticeable in about months 3-4.
Months 3-4 are an interesting time in themselves. You have a baby who is starting to engage, follow you with their eyes, they smile much more, and maybe even laugh or babble at you. That part is wildly fun. Also, in many ways, you are starting to feel like yourself again. Maybe your clothes are fitting better, or you have more energy and the urge to do more. But also, your skin is starting to look dull, perhaps you have pimples. And you’re tired, very tired, so wrinkles that never existed are showing up daily. On top of that your hair is thinning. Emotionally, you are going from, “Wow! Someone LOVES me.” and “Wow, I feel like me again!” to “Holy bananas, what is happening to me?!“
You would think that after 3 kids I would have figured this time out, but there have been moments for me after each baby where I have really felt ugly. I don’t like that word - ugly - but there it is. I’ve looked in the mirror and not liked what I see back; I have felt really ugly. Now don’t get me wrong, I have also looked in the mirror and absolutely LOVED what I see. But coming out of postpartum into some sort of normal has never been lovely for me.
The hair loss is particularly hard. It was something my husband noticed, and asked about. It was something I was always self-conscious about. My hair has always been very fine, but I had a lot of it. Now, suddenly, I had fine hair and not much of it at all. So, what to do?
I did loads of research and tried loads of supplements. I tried almost every brand of hair, nails, skin. I used caster oil on my hairline and eyebrows (yes, those thinned too). I used thickening shampoos. But nothing really stuck. The one thing that landed for me was Nutrafol. Their Postpartum Hair Growth supplements were a game changer. They say it takes about 3-6 months to see and feel a difference, but I feel like I always saw a difference after about 2 months.
If I’d been a better planner, I probably could have timed when to start these so that I saw less loss in the first place. But the newborn stage, that early postpartum, is just wild and I never started supplements until I started to see my hair thinning. Once I did start and a couple months passed, it was like night and day for me. I felt more confident, I liked seeing myself in the mirror again, and I was back to my famous “top bun” without the missing hairline, lol.
There were other perks too. The whole vitamin and mineral mix has loads of other benefits. I was sleeping better, felt happier during the day, less stressed. All in all, just getting a solid vitamin into your body is a great help.
I’m grateful to have found Nutrafol. It has made a huge difference for me - and maybe it will for you too.
